What do you get when you transport a hot (as in temperature) and worn out Florida-girl-mom-dietitian-blogger to the mountains of Vermont for a blogging retreat with 25 other blogging dietitians?
One. Happy. Lady.
If I had to sum up my weekend at Blog Brulee in one statement it would be: Beautiful location, cold weather, amazing people, inspiring, delicious, belly-ache laughing, informative, and inspiring (wait, I already said that).
I'd love to tell you all about it. Go grab a cup of something hot, pretending we are all in the cool mountains of Vermont, and enjoy my experience through pictures.
{Just as a friendly reminder, my participation at this event was partially supported by generous sponsors. I am very appreciative of their efforts because this weekend couldn't have happened without them. THANK YOU!! I was not compensated for my time or for writing this blog post. I just wanted to share about the fun!}
Upon arrival in Burlington Vermont, I had the pleasure of getting to know Anne of fANNEtastic Food. We immediately connected over a love of Friday Night Lights and enjoyed chatting all the way to our final destination of Smugglers' Notch (one of our sponsors for the weekend). We ended up being roomies as well, along with Julie of RDeliciousKitchen, which was totally awesome. We had some time to kill and decided to go for a walk around the property. I loved the change of scenary and of course, the cool weather.
Our Friday evening festivities included a delicious food spread with food from all the sponsors, one of my favorites being this delicious Vanilla Creme Brulee. We had our first informative session on iPhone-ography, which I soaked up since this is what I use to shoot all my food photos. (Hopefully not for much longer as I have my eyes set on a Canon DSLR.)
Since we stayed in condos, which had full kitchens, we were responsible for making our own breakfast. I volunteered for egg duty and really enjoyed sharing breakfast with my roomies.
Saturday was jammed packed of extremely helpful sessions on storytelling, food styling, creating a community, and SEO by our fabulous speakers. I learned so many helpful tips and felt very challenged by all the ways I can improve my blog. (I know that doesn't tell you a lot of details, but honestly, my mind is still on overload with all the information I received.) Here is one of the speakers I was very excited to meet, Brierley Wright of Eating Well Magazine.
I soaked up every word by Gretchen Brown of Kumquat Blog on food styling because I don't think I'm very good at this skill. She offers private coaching and I'm hoping to one day take advantage of this. She is fabulous - so down to earth and friendly.
Midday on Saturday, our whole group traveled to the nearby Boyden Valley Winery for a wine and Cabot Cheese pairing.
The winery had some very interesting wines like a hard cider and a cranberry wine, which paired so nicely with the wide assortment of Cabot cheeses.
The property was beautiful and I was so thrilled to see some fall scenery.
I really enjoyed spending some time with fellow Florida blogger, Kristina LaRue, of Love and Zest.
We had lunch back at the resort, and let me just tell ya', the food was exceptional. This lunch knocked my socks off. The sides were so creative with jicama slaw, watermelon and feta salad, and grilled asparagus. And don't even get me started on how fantastic the biscuits tasted. Biscuits are not always worth it (take it from a girl living in the South) but these totally were.
We concluded lunch with a big outdoor fire and s'mores, which happen to be one of my favorite desserts.
You make friends quickly when it's cold, rainy and you're huddled around a warm fire. Here are old and new friends Kristina LaRue, Marisa Moore, Ann Dunaway, me =), Deanna Seagrave-Daly, and Janice Bissex.
Saturday evening included another amazing meal - a sit-down two course meal. I think I was too excited to eat it because I forgot to snap a pic. But I did take a few shots of the incredible chocolate tasting we did with Lake Champlain Chocolates, another sponsor of our event. My favorite was the Spicy Aztec, but I wouldn't turn any of them down.
I had the pleasure of sitting next to Danielle Omar of Food Confidence during this chocolate tasting and we practiced our mindful eating skills by really breathing in the aroma of the chocolate first.
Sunday morning continued to be packed with super informative talks on monetization and branding your blog by the stellar Meal Makeover Moms. We wrapped up with lots of pictures and goodbyes.

Before flying out, several of us had a couple of hours to walk around downtown Burlington and it was so beautiful, not to mention PERFECT fall weather.
I'm so grateful for the hardwork of the women behind this event. They put on an incredible event that has left me overwhelmed with information and strategies to grow this little blog into something more effective. So to them, I say THANK YOU!!
Well, that wraps it up for Blog Brulee. This might be my longest blog post ever. I hope you enjoyed reading about my adventures and the wonderful people I met. Check out their blogs and their social media channels.
