A Must-Use Spice: Oregano

I'm always looking for ways to jazz up my every day foods. Recently I have rediscovered oregano as the perfect spice for doing just that. In fact, I'm so jazzed about it right now, that I planted an oregano plant this morning in my herb "garden". (picture coming)

So why is it so amazing, you may be asking. Well, oregano offers a versatile flavor that can be used for all types of dishes. It's potent flavor adds a great wow factor to food. You'll also be glad to know that it is loaded with nutrition, specifically very powerful antioxidants. Both fresh or dried offer these benefits.  

Here's how I have been using oregano lately to change up my every day foods:

  • Sprinkled on cauliflower before roasting - dried oregano
  • Mixed into sour cream (along with cumin and cayenne pepper) for a southwest sour cream on fish tacos - dried oregano
  • The main flavor in a pumpkin soup (along with a little nutmeg) - dried oregano
  • Mixed into fresh salad greens - fresh oregano
  • Added to jarred pasta sauce - fresh and dried oregano
  • Sprinkled on a baked potatoe - fresh oregano

Does that give you some new oregano ideas? I bet you have it in your spice rack right now. Go dig it up and start putting it to good use! And please comment on any other ways you like to use oregano.
