With fall officially here, I can celebrate with my annual making of fall applesauce. This is such an easy recipe, it really only needs time. I decided this year to keep the skins in my sauce so those super nutrients found there would stay as well. My result was a super smooth texture, that I really like.
This is a great one to do in the slow cooker too. It's a dump and forget about it kind of recipe that will please a crowd! Enjoy.
Easy Fall Applesauce
3 lbs apples (suggest any variety of Macintosh, Golden Delicious, Fuji, or Gala), cored and halved (Look for apples with a vibrant red color)
Fresh lemon juice from half a lemon
1-2 tbsp ground cinnamon (per your preference)
- Combine apples and lemon in a medium to large Dutch oven or pot.
- Cover pot and cook over low heat until apples become soft and very mushy (about 60-90 minutes). Those pictured are only about 20 minutes in.
- Turn off heat and spoon apples into a blender. Puree until very smooth (about 4-5 minutes), leaving the top of the lid slightly cracked to allow steam to escape.
- Serve warm for a great dessert or keep in fridge for up to one week.
