This morning I had the priviledge of being on Good Morning Jacksonville to discuss brain foods for back to school. Here are the points I discussed and my breakfast brain smoothie recipe.
- Eggs - provide choline, which is critical for brain function and improving memory.
- Salmon and Nuts - provide omega 3's which is linked to better performance in school and fewer behavior problems. Flax seed contains them too.
- Berries - contain antioxidants that contribute to improved motor control and cognition. Spinach and pomegranate also contain high amounts of antioxidants.
Brain Food Smoothie
3/4 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
1 cup milk (cow's, almond or soy)
2 tbsp ground flax seed
1 handful fresh spinach
1/4 cup pomegranate juice
Combine all ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth. Enjoy!
